The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has been refreshed for the 2025 model year and what a refresh it is.
You’ll still recognize it as a Ioniq 5, but the new model is getting a host of new goodies.
These goodies include an increased battery capacity for increased range (more on that in a bit), access to the North American Charging Standard (NCAS) port, also known as Tesla Superchargers, and the new XRT adventure-ready trim.
“Ioniq 5 has been a sales success for us since Day 1,” said José Muñoz, president and global COO of Hyundai Motor Company and president and CEO of Hyundai Motor North America, in a news release. “We’re continuing to give customers more of what they want by expanding the Ioniq 5 lineup with a dedicated off-road-capable XRT model, NACS port, design upgrades and a long list of features developed with customers in mind. The high-performance Ioniq 5 N shows how exciting EVs can be and has been a halo for our entire brand. We’re taking ‘America’s Most Awarded EV Lineup’ from strength to strength.”

Increased range
The models get increased battery capacity.
Standard range models receive a battery capacity of 64 kWh, up from 58 kWh.
Long range models get 84 kWh, up from 77.4 kWh.
Hyundai provided estimated driving range for each trim.
All-wheel-drive models in Limited, SE and SEL trims are expected to have between more than 402 and 451 kilometres of range (depending on wheel and tire size), up from the current 418 kilometres.
Rear-wheel-drive models in SE, SEL and Limited trim are expected to get more than 499 kilometres of range, up from current 488 kilometres.
Lastly, the SE Standard Range model is expected to go more than 386 kilometres, up from the current 354 kilometres.
Tesla Supercharger network
The 2025 Ioniq 5 is the first Hyundai model equipped with a NACS port. Hyundai added the all-new or refreshed Hyundai EVs will come exclusively with a NACS port as of the fourth-quarter of 2024. The Ioniq 5 will be sold with a Combined Charging System (CCS) adapter, so customers will still have access to the previous port format.

XRT
The XRT model increases off-road capability and features a bolder, more rugged appearance. The plan is to broaden the appeal of the model to more customers.
“We designed this Ioniq 5 XRT to offer more protection, connection, and functionality. These will be hallmarks of our XRT models going forward,” said Brad Arnold, senior design manager of exteriors, Hyundai Design North America, in a news release. “The digital camo pattern was created using our Ioniq pixel as the building block. The matte-black 18-inch wheels also display the same Ioniq pixel theme while providing strength and cooling.”

Design changes
The model gets a number of changes inside and out.
This includes restyled front and rear bumpers, a new rear spoiler, more aerodynamic wheels, available flush-type roof side rails and new exterior colours. On the inside, occupants will find redesigned HVAC controls, a new centre console with physical heated front seat controls, new steering wheel design, and heated rear seats on SEL and above trims.
There’s also a host of new tech and safety features on the vehicle.
The Ioniq 5 is the first model range manufactured at the brand-new Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America facility in Georgia.
Pricing hasn’t been announced yet. The 2024 model has a Canadian starting MSRP of $54,999, which doesn’t include fees, levies and taxes. More information is available on the Hyundai Canada website.
