Volvo has unveiled the redesigned XC90, its flagship hybrid SUV, which is launching as a late-2025 model.
The new XC90 was launched the same day as the all-electric EX90. The XC90 is available to order now.
Volvo says the new model gets a more contemporary exterior design, which reflects Volvo’s transition toward full electrification.
On the interior, the XC90 gets a larger central touchscreen with a higher resolution display. The XC90 also gets the automaker’s latest infotainment system, previously available on its electric vehicles.
The XC90 is available in three powertrain versions. The B5 and B6 models feature mild-hybrid technology, while the T8 variant is a plug-in hybrid with an electric driving range of more than 70 kilometres.
Volvo also points out the XC90 is one of the safest vehicles available. It’s equipped with an advanced safety cage and a suite of active safety features.
Thanks to radar and a front camera, the XC90 can detect if the driver has drifted into the oncoming lane and steer them back to their own lane, or help the driver from inadvertently running off the road. It can also use braking and steering to help avoid collisions with other vehicles or pedestrians, cyclists or large animals.

To improve comfort, an improved suspension setup allows each individual damper to adapt mechanically to road conditions to optimize comfort and stability.
An optional air suspension works with an active chassis to monitor the car, road and driver 500 times a second to provide the most comfortable ride possible.
The air suspension can also lower the vehicle by 20 millimetres or raise it by 40 millimetres.
With extra insulation, the new XC90 will also have less wind and road noise, Volvo Cars said.
The automaker adds the vehicle gets a redesigned front cabin, which has been reconfigured to be more practical, following feedback from current XC90 owners. To improve convenience, the new XC90 gets an additional storage space in the centre console, an additional cup holder and the wireless phone charger has been placed behind the central tunnel and separate from the main storage area.
There’s also an optional Bowers & Wilkins audio system.

“The new XC90 exudes confidence, and why wouldn’t it? Our hybrid flagship has been one of our best-selling models for years and it’s still a favourite among many customers,” said Volvo Cars CEO Jim Rowan said in a news release. “Whether it’s comfort, space, luxury, versatility or hybrid efficiency you look for, the XC90 delivers on all accounts. Put together, the XC90 and its fully electric EX90 sibling provide customers with the options that suit them best and equip us with a balanced portfolio as we continue our transition towards full electrification.”
Production of the XC90 is slated to start in late 2024 with first customer deliveries expected near the end of the year.
