Volvo has launched a new flagship SUV and it’s electric.

The all-new EX90, launching as a 2025 model, is a fully electric SUV with an estimated driving range of up to 600 kilometres.

“Based on this trip, I can confidently say that the EX90 is the best car we have ever made,” said Volvo Cars chief executive Jim Rowan in a news release. “After driving it for 950 kilometres through three states in the U.S. in various driving conditions and road surfaces, I only have positive memories. The charging, the handling, the ride comfort, the silence of the cabin and the epic sound system, the reliability, the tech and the feel of the UI – I’ve never driven a Volvo car like it. The EX90 is the start of a new era for Volvo Cars, and it begins now.”

The SUV features twin-motor all-wheel drive with 510 hp and 671 lb.-ft. of torque.

Zero to 100 km/h is reported in 4.9 seconds.

It seats seven while a six-seat configuration is available.

The EX90 features an in-car AI computer built on the Nvidia Drive platform. The core system alongside the Snapdragon Cockpit Platform and in-house developed software work together to run key functions inside the vehicle, from safety features to infotainment to battery management. Volvo Cars says this is intended to create a more responsive and convenient vehicle experience.

Further on the tech front, the EX90 comes with Google built-in and a host of sensors such as radars, cameras and a lidar for improved safety. Data collected form the sensors alongside always-on 5G connection and over-the-air software updates are intended to continuously improve the car’s features.

“The Volvo EX90 embodies our future as a fully electric car maker, with cars that continuously get better over time thanks to core computing and software updates,” Rowan said in the release. “It’s a testament to our global engineering capabilities and reaffirms our position as a leader in the ongoing technology shift in the car industry.”

Production started earlier this year in South Carolina and the first customer deliveries will begin in the fourth quarter of this year.

The vehicle has a Canadian starting price of $113,439 (MSRP of $110,000 plus fees and levies). You can configure yours on the Volvo Car Canada website.
