Some folks probably can’t believe it, but it really has been 50 years since Porsche released the 911 Turbo in 1974.
Turbocharging technology has come a long way since that Type 930 generation sports car, but much of that advancement is owed to the original, which utilized race car technology in a street legal vehicle.
Porsche is celebrating the milestone with a special edition of the modern car, called the 911 Turbo 50 Years model.
The car is builds on the 911 Turbo S and features unique design elements.
Just as in the regular Turbo S, the special edition car features a 3.7-litre twin-turbo boxer engine producing 641 hp and 590 lb.-ft. of torque, mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission sending power to an all-wheel-drive system.
Exterior elements
The 50 Years model features a Porsche Turbo-exclusive colour called Turbonite as well as Turbonite inlays in the rear engine cover, fuel tank cap and on the Porsche crest. It’s also used as a contrasting colour to the Turbo 50 model logo.
Anthracite Grey is used on the rear wing blade, rear apron, mirror base and air intake trims; a badge on the rear engine cover grille features a turbocharger icon and the years 1974–2024; and when the door is open, the LED door projector projects the image of a turbocharger onto the ground next to the car.
Furthermore, the car comes with the 911 Turbo S Exclusive Design wheels in Turbonite as standard.

Interior elements
On the inside, occupants will find McKenzie tartan on the centre panels of the seat covers and interior door panels as well as Turbonite accents in the seat belts, controls, decorative stitching, trim strips with decorative inlays in black leather and the Porsche crest on the steering wheel.
A 50 Years logo is illuminated on the door kick plates and the logo can be found in various areas of the interior, including embroidered into the headrests.
An anniversary plaque in aluminum bears both the Turbo 50 logo and the individual limited-edition number of the car above the glove compartment.

A-pillar, sun visor and roof lining upholstery gets perforated Race-Tex and there’s an analogue clock with a special Turbo 50 design on the dashboard.
There’s also an optional Turbo Heritage Design Package, which adds other exclusive design and equipment elements.
There’s also an exclusive chronograph watch available to owners of the 911 Turbo 50 Years model.
Porsche is building 1,974 of these special-edition cars and timepieces and deliveries are expected to start this fall.
The base MSRP of the 911 Turbo 50 Years model in Canada is $291,700. You can configure yours on the Porsche website.
