The BMW M5 Touring is finally here, offering owners luxury, speed and hauling capability all in one beast of a car.
This is the first time the station wagon version of the M5 is available in Canada, launched as a 2025 model year.
It doesn’t stray far from the sedan version either.
With a base MSRP of $138,000, it costs $3,000 more than the sedan. The MSRP doesn’t include fees, levies or taxes. The M5 Touring is powered by the same M Hybrid powertrain as the sedan, which produces 717 hp and 738 lb.-ft. of torque and can also be driven up 40 kilometres in fully electric mode.
Acceleration from zero to 100 km/h is estimated at 3.6 seconds, one-tenth of a second slower than the sedan version.
On the interior space front, the car offers a cavernous interior, with an approximate 500-litre trunk, and when the 40:20:40 rear seats are folded down, space is opened to 1,630 litres, based on BMW’s preliminary estimate. The rear seat also has a pass-through, which makes it easier to transport longer items such as skis or golf bags.
The tailgate can be operated automatically and hands-free to open and close.

Powertrain
The M5 Touring, just as its sedan sibling, is powered by BMW’s M TwinPower Turbo V8 engine, which itself generates 577 hp and 553 lb.-ft. of torque.
An electric motor contributes up to 194 hp and up to 207 lb.-ft. of torque. A 14.8-kWh lithium-ion battery provides the energy to the electric motor. The plug-in hybrid supports AC charging up to 9.6 to 11 kW, depending on the market.
The power is sent to an all-wheel drive system via an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission.
Performance numbers:
- Zero to 100 km/h: 3.6 seconds
- Zero to 200 km/h: 11.1 seconds
- 80 to 120 km/h: 3.1 seconds in fifth gear
The top speed is governed at 250 km/h, but can be raised to 305 km/h with the M Driver’s Package.
The car will have its worldwide launch in the fourth quarter of 2024, but customers can begin making their reservations now.
