Toyota has figured out a fix for nearly 10,000 vehicles recalled in Canada back in May for potentially faulty engines. The automaker will replace the engines.

The Toyota recall, originally issued May 30, impacts 9,665 Toyota Tundra pickup trucks from the 2022 to 2023 model years and 314 Lexus LX600 SUVs from the 2022 model year equipped with the 3.5-litre twin-turbo engine. Approximately 100,000 of these vehicles were also recalled in the United States.

“There is a possibility that certain machining debris may not have been cleared from the engine when it was produced. In the involved vehicles with higher engine load operations, this can lead to potential engine knocking, engine rough running, engine no start and/or a loss of motive power. A loss of motive power while driving at higher speeds can increase the risk of a crash,” a Toyota Canada news release said.

An update on July 25 includes information on how the problem will be fixed.

“For all involved vehicles, Toyota and Lexus dealers will replace the engine with a new one at no cost to customers,” the news release said.

Customers should expect a notice in the mail soon, if they haven’t already received one.
