There’s a new race car to be seen at the Formula 1 Exhibition in Toronto, but this one is one-of-a-kind.
The exhibition has added a Lego brick-built and life-sized McLaren F1 racer, a one-of-a-kind assembly that took 2,000 hours to build and is made entirely of Lego bricks, 175,000 of them.
The brick race car was added to the exhibit in partnership with Lego Canada. It’s also the car’s second-ever public appearance. It made an earlier appearance during the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal earlier this year.
The car was built by Lego designers and builders with support from the McLaren F1 team. It mimics the real McLaren racer, with a V6 engine with moving pistons and steering suspension. Internal mechanics are exposed so visitors can take a close-up look under the hood.
Other new features at the Formula 1 Exhibition include Lego-built Formula 1-inspired helmets, a make-and-take activity where people can make their own Lego McLaren Formula 1 mini car, and an authentic F1 Canadian Grand Prix podium for people to take pictures on.
The exhibit is located at Lighthouse ArtScape Toronto, 1 Yonge St., and continues until Sept. 15.
