There are more places in Ontario where drivers can legally travel at speeds of 110 km/h as of Friday, July 12.

The province already had several stretches of highway that permitted speeds of 110 km/h and now there’s more. Here’s a list of where.

Previously existing locations are:

  • Highway 401 – between Windsor and Tilbury
  • Highway 402 – between London and Sarnia
  • Highway 404 – between Newmarket and Woodbine
  • Highway 417 – between Ottawa and the Quebec border
  • Highway 417 – between Kanata and Arnpior
  • Queen Elizabeth Way – between Hamilton and St. Catharines

Newly added locations as of July 12:

  • Highway 401, Tilbury, extending the existing 110 km/h zone further east by 7 km
  • Highway 401 from Highway 35/115 to Cobourg (approximately 35 km)
  • Highway 401 from Colborne to Belleville (approximately 44 km)
  • Highway 401 from Belleville to Kingston (approximately 66 km)
  • Highway 401 from Hwy 16 to Quebec boundary (approximately 107 km)
  • Highway 403 from Woodstock to Brantford (approximately 26 km)
  • Highway 403 from Brantford to Hamilton (approximately 14.5 km)
  • Highway 406 from Thorold to Welland (approximately 13 km)
  • Highway 416 from Hwy 401 to Ottawa (approximately 70 km)
  • Highway 69 from Sudbury to French River (approximately 60 km)

Other provinces with 110 km/h limits

Ontario is not the only province that permits speeds of 110 km/h on certain stretches of highways.

Other provinces that have highway speed limits of up to 110 km/h include Alberta, British Columbia, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Saskatchewan.

Highest speed limit in Canada

British Columbia is home to the highest speed limit in the country.

Many of the province’s separated highways have a speed limit of 110 km/h, but there is one area where you can drive 120 km/h and that is the highest speed limit of any highway in Canada.

B.C.’s Highway 5 has a stretch between Hope and Kamloops – through this stretch the highway is called the Coquihalla Highway – where the speed limit is 120 km/h.

The speed limit here and at a few other highways had been raised by the provincial government in 2014; however, the other highways have since had their speed limits lowered.
