The 2-litre twin-scroll single turbo four-cylinder engine currently available in the Toyota GR Supra will be no more at the end of the car’s 2024 model year.
Toyota announced the decision to go strictly with the more-powerful six-cylinder engine for the 2025 model year in the United States at the end of June, which Toyota Canada confirmed will be carried over to the Canadian market as well.
A reason was not provided.
The outgoing four-cylinder engine produces 255 hp and 295 lb.-ft. of torque.
The Supra will now be available strictly with its 3-litre twin-scroll single turbo inline-six, which produces 382 hp and 369 lb.-ft. of torque.
Zero to 60 mph acceleration times for the six-cylinder model are listed at 4.2 seconds with the manual transmission and 3.9 seconds with the eight-speed automatic.
The 2-litre remains available in the Supra’s mechanical twin, the BMW Z4 roadster, which also has the 3-litre engine available.
Toyota hasn’t announced pricing for the 2025 Supra, but the existing 2024 car has a starting MSRP of $69,500 for the six-cylinder model, with no price difference for the automatic or manual. The four-cylinder model has a starting MSRP of $58,010 and is available with an automatic only.
In case you are cross-shopping against the Bimmer, you can have the 2025 BMW Z4 with the four-cylinder engine at a starting MSRP of $69,000.
