Audi is not messing about with its e-tron GT quattro.

The automaker has introduced the next generation of the sporty four-door electric vehicle, now available in three trims, each more powerful than the next.

There’s the S e-tron GT has a total output of 670 hp (500 kW, 679 PS).

Then there’s the RS e-tron GT with a total output of 844 hp (630 kW, 856 PS).

And lastly, there’s the RS e-tron GT performance with a total output of 912 hp (680 kW, 925 PS).

The 912 hp available in the GT performance model makes it the most powerful production car that Audi has ever built, the automaker points out.

Performance numbers are ballistic as well.

Zero to 100 km/h times are reported as follows:

  • S e-tron GT: 3.4 seconds
  • RS e-tron GT: 2.8 seconds
  • RS e-tron GT performance: 2.5 seconds

On top of that, Audi points out that these new e-tron cars are more efficient than the outgoing models. Audi lowered the weight of the electric motor on the rear axle by about 10 kilograms by using lighter components and strengthened the driveshaft and reworked the electronics that distribute all-wheel drive.

The weight of the battery has also been lowered and its energy increased. The battery’s weight was reduced by nine kilograms to a total of 625 kilograms, and has a gross storage capacity of 105 kWh (net 97 kWh). A two-layer cooling plate results in a 12 per cent increase in capacity for the battery’s 33 cell modules, each consisting of 12 pouch cells, Audi says. The cooling system of the cells has also been modified.

Audi says thanks to the battery modifications, range is estimated up to 609 kilometres. Maximum charging power was increased by 50 kW to 320 kW. Audi says that under ideal conditions , the batter’s charge can go from 10 to 80 per cent in 18 minutes, when charging at a high-power station. Under ideal conditions, you could get as much as 280 kilometres of range in 10 minutes of charging, Audi says.

Canadian pricing has not yet been announced. The s e-tron GT starts at 126,000 Euros, the RS e-tron GT at 147,500 Euros and the RS e-tron GT performance at 160,500 Euros.
