A few months after dropping details on its 4 Series and M4 coupes and convertibles, BMW has done the same for those cars’ sedan siblings.
The new 3 Series and M3 sedans are debuting as 2025 model year cars.
Details of 3 Series
In Canada, the 3 Series will be available as the 330i xDrive and the M340i xDrive (xDrive denotes all-wheel drive).
The 330i has a Canadian starting price of $56,900, not including fees, levies and taxes, and the M340i has a starting price of $69,900, also before fees, levies and taxes.
The worldwide launch will be in July, while cars intended for the Canadian market will begin production in August in Mexico and Munich.
The cars receive new interior and exterior design, but they won’t be mistaken for anything other than a BMW, plus a new curved display featuring BMW’s iDrive OS 8.5 with QuickSelect, and new chassis tuning to improve the balance between comfort and sportiness.

On the inside, there are two new steering wheel designs. The 330i comes with a new two-spoke sport leather tiller with a polygonal rim, while the M340i and the 330i equipped with the M Sport Package come with a new three-spoke flat-bottomed M leather steering wheel with a subtle stripe at the 12 o’clock position. It’s black on 330i with M Sport and red on the M340i. M tri-colour stitching around the rim is also included on the M340i xDrive. Both steering wheels have illuminated multifunction buttons and gearshift paddles.
Both cars receive a mild-hybrid setup.
The 330i comes features a 2-litre twin-turbo inline-four-cylinder engine that produces 255 hp between 4,700 and 6,500 rpm and 295 lb.-ft. of torque between 1,600 and 4,500 rpm. The engine gets electric support from a 48V starter generator.
The M340i comes with a 3-litre twin-tubo inline-six with a 48V starter generator that provides 11 hp of boost. Total output is 386 hp between 5,200 and 6,250 rpm and 398 lb.-ft. of torque between 1,900 and 4,800 rpm.
Both cars come with an eight-speed Steptronic transmission. The M340i’s transmission also features Drivelogic.
BMW says the M340i can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds. The 330i is said to do the sprint in 5.6 seconds.
On the chassis tuning side, BMW says the new setup increases comfort across all driving situations and regardless of road surface conditions without losing dynamic capability.
Details of the M3

The M3 is BMW’s 3 Series sports sedan. It features many of the 3 Series’ new features, including the curved display with iDrive OS 8.5.
The 2025 car is available as the M3, or the M3 Competition with M xDrive.
This car will be built in Munich and production phase-in starts in July.
The 2025 M3 has a starting Canadian price of $92,250 while the M3 Competition with M xDrive starts at $99,200, plus fees, levies and taxes.
The M3 comes with a high-revving twin-turbo straight-six.
The standard M3 comes with an engine with 473 hp at 6,250 rpm and 406 lb.-ft. of torque between 2,650 and 6,130 rpm. The transmission is mated to a six-speed manual transmission.
The M3 Competition gets a boost of 20 hp over the outgoing model, now pumping out 523 hp at 6,250 rpm. Peak torque of 479 lb.-ft. of torque is available between 2,750 and 5,730 rpm. This car comes with an eight-speed M Steptronic with Drivelogic automatic transmission.
BMW says zero to 100 km/h times are 4.2 seconds for the standard M3 and 3.5 seconds on the M3 Competition with xDrive.

Like the standard 3 Series, the M3 gets a new steering wheel, a three-spoke M leather steering wheel with multifunction buttons, a red centre marker in the 12 o’clock position, M tri-colour stitching and a flat bottom.
People will also notice the M3 gets design elements to make it distinct from the regular 3 Series, including a large kidney grille. An M Carbon Exterior Package includes wide front air intakes and a rear diffuser, exterior mirror caps and a rear spoiler made from carbon fibre-reinforced plastic.
An optional M Carbon Package includes M carbon bucket seats for the driver and front passenger, carbon fibre trim, and the M Carbon Exterior Package.
