Honda is calling its upcoming Civic Hybrid the most powerful non-Type R Civic ever.
The new car is debuting as a 2025 model year. It’s built on the 11th-generation Civic, which is receiving a mid-cycle refresh for 2025.
So, without further adieu, here are the performance details of the Civic Hybrid, which will be available as a sedan or hatchback.
The two-motor hybrid powertrain is anticipated to have a combined 200 hp and 232 lb.-ft. of torque.
For comparison’s sake, let’s juxtapose that against the mid-sporty variant of the car, the Civic Si, which for the 2024 model year is rated at 200 hp and 192 lb.-ft. of torque. The all-out sporty variant, the Type R, has 315 hp and 310 lb.-ft. of torque, whereas the standard Civic has two engine options, one being a 2 L engine with 158 hp and 138 lb.-ft. of torque or a 1.5 L turbo version with 180 hp and 177 lb.ft. of torque.
“The new Civic hybrid-electric powered trims are the most powerful non-Type R Civics ever, providing quick, effortless acceleration while achieving outstanding EPA fuel economy ratings,” Honda Canada said in a May 21 news release.
Honda expects the car to receive an EPA combined mileage rating of nearly 4.8L/100km in the Sport Hybrid trim and 4.9L/100km in the Sport Touring Hybrid trim.
Honda Canada anticipates the hybrid variants will represent about 60 per cent of all Canadian Civic sales.
“Hybrid-electric sales continue to climb in Canada and the new fun-to-drive Honda Civic Hybrid will be a popular choice with its persuasive combination of power, handling and fuel efficiency,” said Emile Korkor, assistant vice president, Honda sales and marketing, in the release. “The Civic Hybrid is a fantastic and important addition at the gateway of our popular electrified lineup along with Accord Hybrid, CR-V Hybrid and the all-electric Prologue. These vehicles provide Honda an important building block toward 100 per cent zero-emissions vehicle sales by 2040.”
