Some 800 workers at a Tottenham, Ont. independent parts supplier have unionized, Unifor announced.

Workers at F&P voted whether or not to unionize between March 20 and 23 and ballots were counted on April 25. The vote was certified April 26, Unifor said.

F&P operates a metal stamping facility that supplies the Honda assembly plant in Alliston, Ont.

“I’ve been with F&P for 35 years, I pride myself on my work. With Unifor, I believe we can archive self worth, spirit, health wellness and a little more money at the end of the week,” said Jean Horner in a news release issued by Unifor.

Unifor said a key issues for the workers was the high level of contract agency workers that would work for long periods at F&P without being hired.

Following certification, the new Unifor unit will prepare to negotiate its first collective agreement.

Unifor is Canada’s largest private sector union, representing 315,000 workers.
