Google is making it easier for drivers of electric vehicle to navigate to EV charging stations.
The company, through a blog post by Google Maps director Andrew Foster, said it is adding helpful information about charging stations as it rolls out new features on Google Maps and Search.
These updates will make it easier for people to find specific information about the location of EV chargers.
The updates are expected to be rolled out in the coming months.
The blog post says AI-powered summaries in Google Maps will describe a charger’s specific location based on information from user reviews, so drivers know exactly where to go.
“For example, when you’re headed to a charging station you may see a detailed description, like ‘Enter the underground parking lot and follow the signs toward the exit. Just before exiting, turn right,’” the blog post said.
Google said the information is possible thanks to millions of reviews posted on Google Maps every day.
Reviews about chargers will now prompt you for additional information, such as what type of plug you used and how long you waited.
Google can also suggest the best charging locations for vehicles with Google built in. This will be expanded to improve multi-stop trips. So anyone taking a multi-stop trip, Google Maps will suggest the best charging locations along the way, based on your car’s battery charge level. This will also be available only for vehicles with Google built-in.
