The car builders at Shelby American have outdone themselves yet again with the introduction of the 2024 Super Snake.
Unfortunately for Canadians, the car will only be available in the United States and only 250 examples will be made.
It is the automaker’s first car built on the new S650 Ford Mustang platform and it’s designed to be the highest performing Shelby Super Snake in history, the company announced April 18.
“We designed the Shelby Super Snake to be the pinnacle of our performance cars based on Ford’s world-class Mustang sports car,” said Joe Conway, CEO of Shelby American, in a news release. “It follows Carroll Shelby’s vision that each generation of car improves the breed. By collaborating with Ford Motor Company, Whipple and other top companies, our Las Vegas team created our best Shelby Super Snake yet.”
The Super Snake is powered by a 5.0 L V8 engine. There are two versions, one has 480 hp and the other, a supercharged variant, has 830-plus hp.
To achieve 830 hp, 93 octane fuel is required and the supercharger is available for post-title sales only.

The company said the suspension was tuned for sharper turn-ins and the exhaust for better airflow, while the brakes and cooling were enhanced to leverage the powertrain’s potential.
“The roots of the Shelby Super Snake began with the race bred Mark IV Ford GT, which won Le Mans in 1966,” said Gary Patterson, president of Shelby American, in the release. “That car’s engine was the inspiration for the first Shelby Super Snake, a one-off experimental built for high-speed testing on the track. Over the years, the Shelby Super Snake has evolved but continued to keep its competition-edged personality. The 2024 Shelby Super Snake is pure American performance.”
Shelby American says through careful engineering, the company was able to add much more power while keeping the vehicle’s weight balanced with a new aluminum hood and carbon fibre fenders that also redirect the wind for improved cooling.
“Our lightweight magnesium alloy wheels cut pounds off the rotating mass so you can run deeper into and accelerate faster out of the corner. The featherweight carbon fibre tail wing keeps the retuned suspension firmly planted,” said Vince La Violette, Shelby American vice president of operations and senior designer, in the release.
The car is available as a convertible or fastback and can be had with a manual or automatic transmission.
