Toyota says the new bold design comes with new technology, premium materials, a host of options and safety features.

“The all-new 4Runner continues Toyota’s legacy of building legendary trucks while introducing a cool new look and incredible features that prepare this versatile and authentic body-on-frame SUV for the future,” said Cyril Dimitris, vice president, Toyota Canada Inc., in a news release. “The new 4Runner is designed to impress with new style and comfort, state of the art safety and off-roading technology ensuring this is a go-anywhere, do-anything truck – especially when coupled with the impressive torque of the available i-Force Max powertrain.”

The 4Runner sits on Toyota’s TNGA-F global truck platform, shared with the Tacoma, Land Cruiser, Tundra and Sequoia vehicles. The platform is said to utilize a high-strength boxed, steel-ladder frame and a multi-link coil rear and double wishbone front suspension. The platform is said to be not only strong but also offers improved ride comfort.

Toyota says the 4Runner was built trail ready and has up to 32-degree approach and 24-degree departure angles.

An available stabilizer bar disconnect mechanism increases suspension articulation at the push of a button, and an available multi-terrain monitor system helps the driver see potential hazards via a centre display.

Canadian versions of the 4Runner will be available with part-time or full-time four-wheel drive, which utilize an electronically controlled two-speed transfer case with high/low range, active traction control and an automatic limited slip differential.
