The automotive future is electric and Kia is planning to be ready for it.
The Korean automaker laid out a road map for its transformation into what it calls being a “sustainable mobility solutions provider.”
The plan is to introduce 15 new electric vehicle models globally by 2030, and to sell 1.6 million EVs in 2030.
“Following our successful brand relaunch in 2021, Kia is enhancing its global business strategy to further the establishment of an innovative EV lineup and accelerate the company’s transition to a sustainable mobility solutions provider,” said Ho Sung Song, president and CEO of Kia, in a news release. “By responding effectively to changes in the mobility market and efficiently implementing mid-to-long-term strategies, Kia is strengthening its brand commitment to the well-being of customers, communities, the global society, and the environment.”
During its CEO Investor Day in Seoul, Korea, the company updated its mid- to long-term business strategy with a focus on electrification.
The 1.6 million EV units in 2030 would represent 34.4 per cent of the company’s entire sales, if the company achieves its sales target of 4.3 million vehicles sold in 2030. The brand’s goal for 2024 is 3.2 million vehicles.
Besides EVs, the company plans to have more hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles. Combined with the EVs, the company plans to sell a total of 2.48 million electrified vehicles in 2030, representing 58 per cent of projected total sales.
