BMW M and BMW Group Canada announced the M5 Touring is coming to Canada.
The Touring model is the station wagon variant of the sporty mid-sized M5 vehicle.
“The announcement follows a campaign by BMW that asked the Canadian public and enthusiasts to make their voices heard in support of bringing the M5 Touring to Canada, leading to 7,200 petitions submitted, and record-high engagement on BMW Canada’s consumer website and official social channels,” the company said in an April 4 news release.
This is the first time the M5 Touring will be available in Canada.
The first M5 Touring, which was based on the second generation M5 sedan, launched in 1992, but it was never available in Canada. We’re finally getting the wagon form of the M5 in its seventh generation.
Like the future M5 sedan, the wagon will feature what BMW calls an M Hybrid drivetrain, which is closely related to the BMW M Hybrid V8 GTP race car.
“Its M-typical performance characteristics along with precisely tuned chassis technology facilitate driving dynamics and agility at a level unique in its class. With the introduction of the new M5, BMW M is continuing its path to electrification,” BMW Group Canada said in the release.
Past iterations of the M5 featured six, eight and 10 cylinder engines, twin turbo technology and high-revving motors.

“The seventh generation of the BMW M5 continues this progress – with further innovations for an even more intense performance experience,” the company said.
Testing of the BMW M5 Touring prototypes is currently underway in urban traffic, on mountain roads and autobahns. Engineers plan to head to Nürburgring’s Nordschleife, where the integration of the drive and suspension systems will happen, with the aim of ensuring the ideal balance of sporty performance on the racetrack and ride comfort in everyday driving.
