Kia is launching a new car model, the K4, which is the company’s fourth-generation compact sedan.

The Kia K4 will launch as a 2025 model year, and is expected to be available at Canadian dealerships in the second half of 2024.

“The all-new K4 has been designed to deliver on technology and innovation in the compact segment like no other,- said David Sherrard, director of strategic planning, Kia Canada, in a news release. “The bold styling showcases Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ design language – sure to make a powerful statement on the road.”

The new vehicle debuted at the New York International Auto Show.

It is said to feature technology normally seen in segment-above cars. This includes advanced driver assistance systems, refinement and generous rear head room and leg room.

There are five trims levels to choose from: LX, EX, EX+, GT-Line Turbo and GT-Line Turbo Tech.

Standard features include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and an available multi-segment display cockpit with nearly 30 inches of combined digital instrumentation. These screens allow for a camera-feed of your surroundings.

There’s also Digital Key 2.0 with Ultra Wideband, a Harmon Kardon sound system, heated steering wheel and a wide sunroof.

Kia says the K4 has the largest footprint in the compact car segment. The car’s overall length is 4,709 millimetres and width is 1,849 millimetres. To compare it to the compact car sales leader in Canada, the 2024 Honda Civic measures at 4,560 to 4,606 millimetres long and 1,802 to 1,890 millimetres wide.

LED headlights and taillights, inspired in design by the Kia EV9, are standard.

The GT-Line models receive sporty exterior design touches, including unique front and rear appearance with gloss black accents, a satin chrome beltline, 18-inch alloy wheels, and gloss black mirror caps, window trim and side sill.

The car comes with the Connected Car Navigation Cockpit operating system with over-the-air capability.

Available are combined digital screens that measure nearly 30 inches combined.

The car comes standard with a 2 L engine with 147 hp and 132 lb.-ft. of torque mated to an intelligently variable transmission (IVT), or an optional 1.6 L turbocharged engine with 190 hp and 195 lb.-ft. of torque mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

The K4 GT-Line Turbo also features a multi-link rear suspension that adds lateral stiffness and compliance.

To reduce noise, vibration and harshness, the car has an available acoustic windshield and acoustic tires available on models with 18-inch wheels.

On the safety front, there are eight airbags, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, Lane Keep Assist and Smart Cruise Control with stop and go, as well as forward collision avoidance and haptic steering wheel warnings.

A more sophisticated forward collision avoidance system on the GT-Line Turbo Tech model detects crossing vehicles while crossing through an intersection and provides braking and steering wheel input to help prevent certain collisions or lessen the effects of collisions in certain conditions. There’s also Evasive Steering Assist to mitigate collisions with obstacles, pedestrians or other vehicles.

Another feature, Highway Driving Assist 2 can maintain a predetermined distance from the vehicle detected in front, keeping the vehicle within detected lane markers on certain highways.

There’s a host of other safety features available, such as blind-spot collision warning, rear cross traffic alert, blind-spot view monitor, surround-view, parking distance warning and more.

Kia Canada says pricing, trim details and fuel ratings will be announced as they become available.
