The Toyota Land Cruiser, returned to Canada after a 35-year absence, has been given a price tag.

The starting manufacturer’s suggested retail price in Canada for the 2024 model is $69,290, not including freight, PDI, fees and taxes.

People who are into off-road vehicles will know the Land Cruiser name well, and the retro looks of the latest model will remind drivers of the classic.

“When Toyota came to Canada in 1964, the Land Cruiser was one of our three models and as Toyota’s longest-running nameplate, it helped our company take its first steps on what has become a remarkable journey in this country,” said Cyril Dimitris, vice president, Toyota Canada Inc., in a news release. “Now, after a 35-year hiatus, we’re thrilled to bring back the Land Cruiser to Canada – as a high-quality off-roader that’s designed to help a wider range of Canadians embark on new adventures.”

The Land Cruiser sits on Toyota’s TNGA-F global truck platform, which Toyota Canada says gives it strength to withstand punishing off-road conditions while also providing impressive ride comfort and on-road manners.

Every model comes with Toyota’s i-Force Max hybrid powertrain. It features a 2.4 L intercooled turbocharged engine connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission via an electric motor in the bell housing. The powertrain has a combined 326 hp and 465 lb.-ft. of torque.

Towing capacity is 6,000 pounds and a trailer hitch is standard on all trims.

All models come with full-time four-wheel drive with a centre locking differential, an electronically controlled two-speed transfer case, an electronic locking rear differential and an automatic limited slip centre differential.

Off-road capability is enhanced with Crawl Control, Downhill Assist Control, Vehicle Stability Control, and a three-setting Drive Mode Select system. Higher grades also include Multi-Terrain Select and Multi-Terrain Monitor.

While the SUV’s looks are inspired by a classic, on the inside, you’ll find a host of modern tech, from Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Toyota’s Smart Key System, push button start, an anti-theft alarm system with engine immobilizer, multi-zone climate control, heated front seats, heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel, USB charging points and much more.

There are four trims available for 2024. Prices are as follows:

  • Land Cruiser 1958 – $69,290
  • Land Cruiser – $77,290
  • Land Cruiser Premium Package – $83,290
  • Land Cruiser First Edition – $90,370

Prices don’t include freight, PDI, fees and taxes.

It should be noted only 290 units of the First Edition will be sold in Canada.
