2025 Chevrolet Equinox to be wider than outgoing generation

The Equinox is Chevrolet’s best selling SUV in Canada and its second-best seller overall

General Motors has released details of the next generation of Chevrolet’s best-selling SUV.

The 2025 Chevrolet Equinox is expected to be released for customer ordering by mid-2024.

The company says the next generation of its compact SUV will be packed with new safety technology to go along with the new looks.

“The all-new 2025 Equinox represents a milestone in Chevrolet’s crossover strategy, demonstrating our dedication to providing our customers with stylish design, advanced technology and safety,” said James Hodge, brand director of Chevrolet Canada, in a news release. “The 2025 Equinox remains true to its core strengths that have earned it customer loyalty over the past two decades. It proudly holds the title of our Chevrolet top-selling SUV in Canada and is the second-best seller in our lineup, just behind the iconic Silverado.”

What’s new?

The new model is nearly 2.3 inches wider than the outgoing Equinox to give it a more planted stance.

There will be three different trim levels, the LT, ACTIV and RS, with each having a distinct front fascia treatment. The LT offers two choices of grill finish, standard chrome or Midnight Edition high gloss black.

New, squared wheel openings and fenders add to the visual muscle, the company says.

The new SUV also gets a C-pillar shark fin to add an appearance of motion, even when the vehicle is stationary, which is said to be a familiar resemblance to the new Traverse.

The SUV gets all-LED lighting.

Aluminum wheel choices range from the standard 17-inch rims on the LT to the available 20-inch wheels on the RS.

The interior gets revamped too, with a stronger focus on technology and user experience.

An 11-inch driver information centre sits in front of the driver, and there’s a new 11.3-inch diagonal infotainment screen in the centre, angled slightly toward the driver. This screen is 30 per cent larger than what’s available on the current model.

Powertrain

The Equinox is powered by a 1.5 L turbo engine with 175 hp (estimated) and comes with a continuously variable transmission pm front-wheel-drive models, or an eight-speed automatic transmission with available all-wheel drive. In Canada the ACTIV and RS trims come standard with all-wheel drive.

All-wheel-drive models can tow up to 1,500 pounds.

ACTIV trim

The ACTIV trim is designed for off-road adventure. It comes with styling to accentuate an off-road look, all-terrain tires, and has an available white roof for a two-tone finish.

It also has blacked-out badging, 17-inch machine-faced aluminum wheels, Maple Sugar and Black interior theme with Evotex and sueded microfibre seating, ACTIV embroidered on the front seat headrests, and heated steering wheel and front seats, with available ventilated front seats and rear outboard heated seats.

RS trim

The RS trim has an available black room, emblems and mirrors, a wide grill opening, and high gloss finish on the grill bar and lower fascia. It comes with 19-inch Carbon Flash machined aluminum wheels as standard. In Canada, the RS is standard with all-wheel drive.

This trim also comes with Torch Red and Santorini Blue stitching on Evotex seats, has RS on the headrests, and has a heated, flat-bottom steering wheel. Optional are ventilated front seats and heated rear outboard seats.

Safety

The 2025 Equinox comes standard with Chevrolet Safety Assist, which includes:

  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Forward collision alert
  • Front pedestrian and bicyclist braking
  • Following distance indicator
  • Lane keep assist with lane departure warning
  • IntelliBeam

Additional standard safety and driver assistance features include:

  • Rear vision camera
  • Rear seat reminder
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Blind zone steering alert
  • Intersection automatic emergency braking
  • Rear cross traffic braking
  • Rear park assist
  • Safety alert seat
  • Side bicyclist alert

The company says pricing will be available closer to the start of production.
