Mitsubishi sold more vehicles in Canada in 2023 than in any other year in the company’s 21-year history in this country.
Mitsubishi sold 35,708 vehicles during the year, it announced earlier in January
This surpassed Mitsubishi’s previous Canadian sales record of 25,535 vehicles, set in 2019, by more than 10,000 units.
“Our CY23 (calendar year 2023) results demonstrate the continued strength and growth of the Mitsubishi Motors brand in Canada and reaffirm that we’re selling the type of vehicles Canadians are looking for,” said Kenji Harada, president and CEO of Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada, Inc., in a news release.
Leading the company’s sales were the Outlander and Outlander PHEV compact SUVs.
Mitsubishi sold 9,640 gas-powered Outlanders, a 23 per cent year-over-year increase, and 9,911 units of the plug-in hybrid Outlander PHEV, a 388 per cent year-over-year increase.
The company said it took important steps in 2023 to increase capacity for growth when it added a second port in Nanaimo, B.C. for vehicle imports, and significantly increased the size of its parts distribution centre in Mississauga, Ont.
Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada, established in 2002, has its head office and distribution centre in Mississauga and 97 dealerships across the country, and employs more than 1,200 people across the country, the company said.
