If you’re planning to head out on an adventure, but wish to ride in style, Lexus has a vehicle for you.
The all-new 2024 Lexus GX 550 is available in Canada.
“For 2024, Lexus designers and engineers have reimagined the GX from the ground up to inspire our guests to pursue their urge to travel, explore beyond the pavement, and revel in the joy of driving and discovery,” said Martin Gilbert, director of Lexus Canada, in a news release. “We’ve enhanced the off-road prowess that GX enthusiasts value, while adding the best of Lexus technologies and thoughtful interior touches. This is the new GX our guests have been waiting for – and now, the wait is over.”
The GX is a mid-size SUV.
It comes standard with a 3.4 L twin-turbo V6 engine producing 349 hp and 479 lb. ft. of torque, up 48 hp 150 lb. ft. over the outgoing model. Towing capacity is 8,000 pounds on most models, up 1,500 over the outgoing model.
Power is sent to the wheels via a 10-speed Direct Shift automatic transmission, and the SUV comes with full-time four-wheel drive.
There’s also active noise control, drive mode and a Torsen limited slip locking centre differential. All models are factory equipped with a trailer ball and tow hitch, trailer brake controller, and trailer sway control.
The GX sits on the Lexus GA-F platform, the same as the current LX 600, which gives the new generation increased body rigidity and improves on-road handling. The platform is meant to withstand twisty off-road forces, maximize suspension performance, create stable wheel articulation and deliver consistent tire contact.
Lexus says the new rugged yet refined body style is meant to express the GX’s off-road capability.
The GX is designed for 26-degree approach, 24-degree breakover and 21-degree departure angles.
If you’re really going to be in the muck, the GX has auto-levelling, triple-beam premium LED headlamps with washers, as well as LED tail lights, Lexus signature L-shaped light bar with updated Lexus logo, running boards, roof rails and rear spoiler.
A power rear lift door is standard, including a flip-up rear hatch.

On the inside, the GX can seat five, six or seven, depending on trim.
Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 is standard on every trim level.
There are six trim levels for 2024.
The trim and manufacturer’s suggested retail price of each is :
- Signature – $83,500
- Premium – $92,500
- Luxury – $101,850
- Executive – $105,850
- Overtrail – $92,500
- Overtrail+ – $101,850
The MSRP doesn’t include fees and taxes.
The Overtrail model builds on the Signature model, but adds a number of features to enhance off-road driving, while the Overtrail+ adds a number of luxury features to the Overtrail model.
