Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) has revealed the semi-finalists for its annual Canadian Car of the Year Awards.

The top five vehicles in each of four categories were announced Dec. 4.

The winners will be announced Thursday, Feb. 15 at the Canadian International AutoShow in Toronto.

For 2024, the awards have four categories. The categories and the semi-finalists for each are as follows:

2024 Canadian Car of the Year

  • Acura Integra Type S
  • Honda Accord
  • Subaru Impreza
  • Toyota GR Corolla
  • Toyota Prius

2024 Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year

Voting is done by AJAC journalists in two stages. In Stage 1, journalists have named their favourites in each category. The votes were collated to reveal the top five in each category, as revealed above.

The finalists in each category will be announced in January and the winners will be revealed Feb. 15.

Results from AJAC journalist member ballots are audited by KPMG and remain secret until the envelopes are opened.

All 2024 model year vehicles are eligible for the awards, including those that were newly designed, recently refreshed, and carried over from last year.

Awards jurors drive every vehicle they vote on. Vehicles are tested on public roads and in the same conditions faced by Canadian drivers, and at AJAC’s annual TestFest event held each October.

“The 20 AJAC Canadian Car of the Year Award semi-finalists are the vehicles that our members have found to be the cars, trucks, and SUVs best suited to the needs of drivers in Canada,” said AJAC president Evan Williams, in a news release.
