Porsche Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid to gallop with 670 hp

Porsche introduces third generation of its luxury sedan, featuring variants with an internal combustion engine or hybrid

Imagine four adults sitting in luxurious comfort while sprinting to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds.

Porsche is making it possible.

The company has introduced the third generation of its Panamera luxury sedan, which is available with a V6 engine or one of four hybrid variants. The top-rung hybrid, the Turbo E-Hybrid, comes with a 4 L V8 turbo engine and a newly developed electric motor. The combined power output of the system, Porsche says, is 500 kW (680PS) and a torque of 930 Nm. In Canadian speak, that boils down to 670 hp and 686 lb. ft. of torque.

The Turbo E-Hybrid will be available at launch. Details and dates have not yet been announced for the other hybrid variants.

The Turbo E-Hybrid’s electric motor is integrated in the housing of the eight-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission. This single housing saves about five kilograms, plus integration of the unit into the oil circuit of the transmission also optimizes the heat balance of the electric drive unit and allows higher continuous output from the electric motor, Porsche says.

Porsche says the Turbo E-Hybrid will do zero to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and can reach a top speed of 315 km/h.

The non-hybrid Panamera and Panamera 4 (all-wheel drive) will also be available at launch. These are available with a 2.9 L V6 turbo engine, which generates 260 kW (353 PS) and 500 Nm of torque. Translation: 348 hp and 368 lb. ft. of torque.

This will take the rear-wheel drive Panamera to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds and a maximum speed of 272 km/h; while the all-wheel drive Panamera 4 will sprint to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds and has a top speed of 270 km/h.

Expect details of the non-Turbo designated hybrid models at a later date.

Deliveries of the next-gen Panamera will begin in Europe in March 2024.

Porsche hasn’t announced Canadian pricing. In Germany, Panamera prices will start at €107,800 ($160,869 Canadian dollars at Nov. 25’s exchange rate), Panamera 4 at €111,900 ($166,988 Canadian), and Turbo E-Hybrid at €192,500 ($287,267 Canadian).
