Next-gen Hyundai Santa Fe gets boxy body style

2024 Santa Fe will be available with 1.6L turbo hybrid powertrain or 2.5L turbo engine

The next generation of the Hyundai Santa Fe looks to be going after the premium vehicle shopper with a new exterior design that could easily be mistaken for a Land Rover Defender.

It’s bold, boxy and large, and the interior is loaded with a host of comfort features.

Hyundai revealed the all-new 2024 Santa Fe to North American media at AutoMobility LA on Nov. 16.

“The original Santa Fe was our very first SUV in the U.S. more than two decades ago,” said José Muñoz, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor North America, in a news release. “Our newest Santa Fe will attract even more customers with its bold, distinctive design identity, spacious interior design, and unique ability to fuse urban customer lifestyles with the natural outside environment.”

Here a some highlights of the new SUV.

It comes with two engine options. One is a 1.6L turbo engine with a hybrid electric system, good for a maximum of 232 hp and 271 lb.-ft. of torque. The other engine is a 2.5L turbo with 277 hp and 311 lb.-ft. of torque.

The vehicle has a longer wheelbase than the outgoing model and comes with three rows of seating as standard and a spacious interior, plus a new, wider liftgate (that’s the rear door).

On the inside, drivers will find features (some optional) such as a UV-C- sterilization compartment to sterilize items such as phones, wallets and other small items, dual wireless charging, a panoramic curved display that encompasses a digital gauge cluster and infotainment system, a Bose 12-speaker sound system and more.

Fully foldable second- and third-row seats create a terrace-like space at the rear liftgate opening, the company says.

A first-row relaxation comfort seat comes with a leg rest, and the six-passenger Santa Fe features second-row power-reclining captain’s chairs.

Hyundai didn’t provide pricing for the next-gen Santa Fe, but the 2023 model starts at $40,706 for the gasoline model and $48,306 for the hybrid model.

The new Santa Fe will go on sale in early 2024.
